Volume 52
February 2004

THE ANNUAL CLARK HATCH SPORTS DAY was held on Sunday, 14th December at the Chulalongkorn University sports stadium and included volleyball, basketball, track and field, and tug-of-war events. The overall winner was the Amari Atrium center - a big well done to Manager Urai and her team of well disciplined athletes! Also thank you to our main sponsor - SPONSOR DRINKS.

HERE ARE A COUPLE OF MEMBERS WHO HAVE EXCELLED in their chosen fields and are putting Thailand on the map in the sports of bodybuilding and mountaineering.

Many members will have been inspired by SITTHI CHAROENRITH watching him working out some years ago at the Thaniya center. Sitthi, now 30 years of age, has just about reached the pinnacle of his career by taking 2nd place in the Mr Universe 2003 contest held in Germany. He has held the Mr Thailand title and won the Latchford Classic for the past 3 years and many thought he should have been the winner in Germany - you judge for yourselves from the photo (Sitthi is pictured on the right). Anyway, this is the first time a Thai has been placed in an international event of this standing. Well done Sitthi!!
Bodybuilding at this level is one of the toughest of disciplines involving hours of grueling training every day, strict adherence to special eating regimens, consumption of expensive supplements, and no boozing, smoking or other unhealthy habits! Sitthi has proved he has the strength of character to do all this and compete with the world's greatest. He is in hard training for the 2004 contest and confident of taking the winners trophy this year in Spain. Let's wish him good luck!

KINGKAEW BUATOOM and husband Dr Charles Mitchell are familiar figures at our Thaniya center. Both spend hours each week on the stepping machines and walking on the treadmills at the steepest inclines. This is part of a training regimen that has helped them scale some of the highest mountains in the world. Kaew was back in the news recently after returning from Chamonix, France where she and Charles have been part of a team attempting to climb all 75 peaks of the Red Needles. So far 58 have been climbed and Kaew is confident the remaining peaks will be conquered within a year to claim a new record.
And what's next for this intrepid lady? Well, after attempting the Eiger in Switzerland next year, Kaew and Charles are seriously considering the ultimate climb - the ascent of Everest! Again good luck to Kaew and Charles Mitchell.

The Clark Hatch center at the Century Park Hotel has taken on a new look with a nicely renovated reception area, paint job throughout, and remodeled massage rooms for the enjoyment of members and hotel guests. If you are in the Rachaprarob/ Din Daeng area pop in and have a workout and massage at this popular facility.

18th December marked the Christmas and New Year Party at the Amari Watergate Hotel center and, with a Viva Los Vegas theme, attracted a host of glamorous and talented party-goers (it's just as well John was on his bike pedaling back from Phnom Penh to Bangkok at the time!). Photo shows General Manager Pierre Andre Pelletier and center manager, Srirat, about to dig into the cake with the staff and celebrities.

The first Health and Beauty Festival at the Amari Atrium Hotel was held at the end of January in the Busarakam Ballroom. Featuring displays of all kinds of health and beauty products and exercise equipment, demonstrations in yoga, aerobic dance, meditation, colonic irrigation, and massage were also included.
Guest of honour was Dr. Satis Indrakumhaeng, founder of the Cheewajit Foundation, who gave a very interesting lecture on 'Exercise and Nutrition'. Dr. Satis is pictured 4th left in the photo cutting the ribbon at the opening ceremony with hotel General Manager, Mr Marco A. Saxer, Clark Hatch Fitness Center manager, Khun Urai, at far right and other guests and participants.

The roof top area next to the tennis court has been transformed into a bosky garden and features a jacuzzi housed in a wooden sala. The pool deck has been remodeled with plants and ornaments adding a nice touch. A new carpet has been laid in the gym and a paint job will follow along with renovations to the sauna baths.

All in all the Sriracha center is looking great. If you feel like a pick-me-up whilst driving to Pattaya why not pop into the City Hotel for a workout followed by a massage!

The Sriracha center, located in The City Hotel, is undergoing some very tasteful and attractive changes and redecoration. Already completed and in operation is the new Ramburi Spa situated on the same level as the fitness center and adjacent to the swimming pool on the third floor. This is a wonderful creation using all local materials, handicrafts, and decorative items. The products, aromatherapy oils etc, are produced in Thailand and, besides being exclusively used in the spa, are exported overseas. An extensive menu of treatments is available and Clark Hatch members can avail themselves of a 40 percent discount.

NICHADA THANI OPENS!!
Sunday, 15th February saw the official opening of the latest Clark Hatch center at the Nichada International Country Club. This facility boasts a well equipped gymnasium, squash court, spacious dance studio and changing facilities with steam baths. A Starbucks coffee shop is conveniently located next to the gym and squash with seating overlooks a full sized Olympic swimming pool and there are glorious paths around the adjacent take.

Nichada Thani memberships are restricted to residents only but the usual reciprocal privileges are extended to Clark Hatch members from other centers. Access is either from Samakee Road or Chaengwattana Road, west of Prachachuen Road in Nonthaburi district.
